GD 301 Branding, Interaction, and Service Design

BRIEFING NEEDS
- COURSE LANDMARKS TIMELINE (see below)
- PROCESS-DRIVEN TO-DOS (below)
- SHARED, GROUP-AUTHORED BUILDING-BLOCKS/KIT-OF-PARTS (due in two weeks … see below timeline)
On the front-end, each group should be working towards building a shared set of building-block component parts that will inform both collaborative as well as individual work when creating your entity and larger supporting design system. In doing so, each group should observe the following three categories:
• LANGUAGE, GRAPHIC, and IMAGE
Language: includes everything from sign-offs, to tiered taglines, to extended narrative text, to voice and tone.
Graphic: includes everything from color palettes, to typography, to geometric and iconographic form vocabularies.
Image: includes everything from patterns, to illustration style, to photography, to meta-driven art direction.

• TOUCHPOINTS DESIGN PUSH (progress reviewed periodically; due end of term … see timeline). Each and every individual student should also be working, alongside teammates, on three distinct (yet interrelated) touchpoints, each a match to one of our three project-type buckets: BRANDING, INTERACTION, and SERVICE DESIGN.
Moreover, each student should be determining, also in coordination with teammates, a distinct scale for each design; this, a match to the degree of complexity of each touchpoint. These three scales are: SMALL, MEDIUM, and LARGE.
————————————————————————————————————
• MINI-LITERATURE REVIEW (progress reviewed early November; due end of term … see timeline)
Finally, each group should be working towards building a shared “mini-literature review” that will also help inform the creation of your entity and larger supporting design system. In doing so, for curatorial purposes, each group should observe the following three categories: PDFs (texts), LINKS (online resources), and EXEMPLARS (references).
Sources for mini-literature reviews are books, newspaper/magazine articles, web sites, like initiatives /projects, etc. These should provide you with a library of analogous ideas, case studies, and more that describe trends, exemplary like-entities, etc. that should help towards further detailing your very own work.
ATTENTION: Make sure that you are making progress in this on-going most important to-do (be aware that you will have to follow-through on this leading to a concrete deliverable as part of your process work as well as final review).
